Chapter Index

In the afternoon, Leon had Muen take Little Light for reading practice.
Muen was very excited, saying she could finally experience what it feels like to be a teacher teaching a student.
But Leon privately mused that given Little Light’s understanding of learning, it wasn’t clear who would be teaching whom.
However, he didn’t interfere much with his daughters at this stage. Before formally entering the ocean of knowledge, they needed to find suitable oars by themselves.
Respecting children’s choices needs to start from early on – Leon knew this principle well.
After arranging things for his daughters, Leon had wanted to discuss the Nine Hell Gates with Rosvitha.
After all, this ancient text was written by that Claudia Poseidon of the Sea Dragon clan, and some of its contents might be better understood by Rosvitha, who was also a dragon, than by Leon.
But Anna said Her Majesty had gone out to patrol the borders and wouldn’t return until evening.
Fine, fine, fine, dragon mother, now you don’t even tell me when you go out, this life can’t go on anymore.
Just wait until you come back, I’ll pick a fight and argue with you, you’ll see!
Leon grumbled a couple of complaints in his heart, then went to the practice grounds by himself.
Without Rosvitha, he could still figure out the contents of the Nine Hell Gates on his own.
Sitting cross-legged on the grass of the practice grounds, the afternoon breeze brushed through Leon’s black bangs, rustling the pages of the ancient text in his hands with gentle sounds.
When absorbing new knowledge, Leon could always immerse himself completely – this was the main reason he learned everything quickly.
And of course, when someone focuses all their attention on something, they tend to lose track of time.
Before he knew it, it was already dusk.
Only then did Leon put down the ancient text, stretch his arms while sitting on the ground with satisfaction.
Looking up at the sunset on the horizon, Leon slightly narrowed his eyes, “It’s almost night, that dragoness should be back by now.”
While muttering this, Leon was about to get up and go check, but footsteps from behind made him sit back down.
At this time of day, the only person who would come looking for him at the training grounds would be Rosvitha.
Her Majesty the Queen always had a habit of seeking out her “captive” to chat and banter after a tiring day – it was one of her ways to decompress.
Of course, if chatting didn’t work, Rosvitha would need to engage in more… intensive interactions with Leon.
The footsteps stopped. A long silver tail appeared in Leon’s peripheral vision.
Without looking directly at the visitor, he gazed at the setting sun in the distance and said teasingly,
“Well, well, look who’s back. Your Majesty finally remembers she has a husband?”
After he finished speaking, Leon heard a confused “Hmm?”
Hah, stupid dragon. This is what you get for leaving without telling me. I’m going to be petty with you today.
“It’s fine, I know Your Majesty is very busy. If I got upset over such a small matter, it would make me look unreasonable.”
“……”
“Speechless, Your Majesty? Want to apologize to me?”
“……”
“You better think carefully about your apology. I might not accept it, you know.”
“……”
“Why so quiet? Say something at least, dragon lady.”
“Hello.”
Upon hearing this voice, the smug smile on Leon’s face instantly froze, then gradually faded away.
This voice… it was unfamiliar. It wasn’t Rosvitha’s!
He hurriedly stood up and looked at the owner of the voice.
It was an older woman, appearing to be around fifty years old. Despite her age, one could tell she must have been quite a beauty in her younger years.
Her tail wasn’t the silver color Leon had glimpsed earlier, but rather a pinkish-white that only appeared silvery due to the sunset’s reflection.
The woman wore a simple long dress and stood with elegant posture, her gaze calm and steady as she looked at Leon.
Leon scratched his head awkwardly, pursed his lips, and stammered,
“I’m sorry… I mistook you for someone else.”
The woman smiled gently, “From your tone earlier, it sounded like you were complaining to a lover.”
Lover?
General Leon pondered.
Lover?!
Who’s a lover?
Who are you calling lovers?!
He and that dragon woman weren’t lovers at all (they were spouses).
Though he kept denying it internally, Leon had to maintain the act in front of others.
“Just saying things randomly… By the way, may I ask who you are?”
She was an unfamiliar face – at least Leon had never seen her before.
But since she could freely enter and exit the Silver Dragon Sanctuary’s training grounds, she must be one of Rosvitha’s acquaintances, or perhaps a family member of one of the maids.
Rosvitha wasn’t a strict employer. The maids’ family members could visit the Silver Dragon Sanctuary, but only after the day’s work was done.
Leon had witnessed such scenes several times before.
It was just like when his master’s wife would visit him during his closed training period at the Dragon Slaying Academy – bringing food, clothes, giving hugs, chatting – it was all very heartwarming.
So Leon guessed this aunty must be a relative of one of the maids.
The woman’s eyes flickered slightly as she pondered before responding, “I have family working here. I came to see her.”
Ah, as expected – a maid’s relative.
“Yes, but there’s still about half an hour before the maids finish their shift, so you’ll have to wait a while.”
As a kind and friendly prince – this was the role Rosvitha had set for Leon – taking care of staff family members was part of his duties.
Besides, Leon had just spent the afternoon studying the Nine Hells Formation and had nothing else to do. He might as well chat with the elderly woman to pass the time.
And wait for that dragon to come home.
The woman nodded, “Alright, then I’ll trouble you to keep this old woman company and chat for a while.”
“No problem.”
“Just now I heard you constantly saying ‘Your Majesty’ this and that, and your tone was very natural and casual. Regular clan members wouldn’t dare speak like that, so… you must be the Silver Dragon Queen’s husband?”
Leon blinked, momentarily speechless.
It wasn’t that he was surprised she could tell his identity, but rather that even after recognizing his status, she could still maintain such a composed attitude while talking to him.
Even Head Maid Anna would address Leon as “Your Highness” with utmost respect when speaking to him.
Could it be that this woman had seen much in her life, making a prince nothing special in her eyes?
But Leon didn’t really mind her manner of speaking with him.
His position as prince was fake anyway, and he didn’t put on airs himself.
Moreover, since she was elderly, Leon didn’t pay much attention to this point.
“Yes, how embarrassing – I mistook you for Rosvitha and said all those awkward things.”
The woman’s lips curved up almost imperceptibly, “That’s alright. But being able to chat so naturally and casually like that must mean your relationship with the Silver Dragon Queen is… quite good, right?”
“……”
Aunty, at your age, shouldn’t you avoid asking such gossipy questions?
“Young man, why do you look so troubled? Did I say something wrong? Is your relationship with the Silver Dragon Queen actually quite bad?”
Hearing this, Leon quickly waved his hands in denial, “No, no, Rosvitha and I… our relationship… is very good, yes, very good.”
He had to maintain their loving appearance in front of others.
Even if she was just a maid’s relative, who knows if she might mention something to other clan members?
If word got out that Her Majesty the Queen and His Highness the Prince were actually a couple merely keeping up appearances, it would spread from one to ten, ten to a hundred, and the “loving couple” image that Leon and Rosvitha had built up over more than a year would crumble!
“Is that so.” The woman was clearly skeptical of Leon’s reaction.
Leon swallowed and said, “Y-yes, we even have three children, so our relationship is naturally good.”
The woman raised her eyebrows slightly, “Already… three children?”
Good grief, aunty, are you from outer space?
Who in the Silver Dragon Clan doesn’t know that the Queen and Prince have been married for three years and already had three children?
That fertility rate was absolutely explosive even among all dragon clans.
But you haven’t heard about it…
“It seems I’ve missed many important things,” the woman murmured to herself.
“Huh? Were you not with the Silver Dragon Clan before?”
“Yes, I went very far away to handle some matters, and only recently returned.”
The woman smiled and asked, “So do you and the Queen plan to have more children?”
“Ah, well…”
The woman looked at Leon, still smiling kindly, “You just used your three children to prove that you and the Queen have a good relationship. So by your logic, more children means a better relationship, right? So… will you be having more babies?”
Aunty, that’s enough!
Don’t use your age as an excuse to ask such outrageous questions!
Do you think your kind and friendly Prince has no temper?
I can get angry too when pushed!
“This is a private matter between my wife and me, it’s not appropriate to discuss too much with others,” Leon said seriously.
The woman tilted her head slightly, eyes narrowed as she studied Leon, then let out another soft laugh, “Very well, this old woman spoke out of turn. My apologies, Your Highness. I just wanted to confirm the relationship between you and the Queen.”
Leon felt he was already being very restrained.
Even though she was a dragon, this wasn’t a battlefield – there was no need for tensions to escalate. Having a normal conversation was fine.
He was quite willing to chat with an elderly lady who hadn’t seen her family in a long time.
After all, his master’s wife could only see Leon occasionally after long intervals back then, so he could understand the longing.
But this old dragon kept probing about his relationship with Rosvitha from the start, which was hard not to find annoying.
He put his hands in his pockets and lowered his tone,
“My wife and I love each other very much. This doesn’t need proving – everyone knows it.”
If Rosvitha were present, she’d probably use her tail to cover Leon’s mouth after hearing that.
Not because she didn’t want to hear it, but because it was too embarrassing, you idiot!
It was like throwing out so much dog food that you accidentally stuffed some in your own mouth.
Seeing Leon so serious, with every word defending his wife, the woman smiled contentedly,
“As expected of the man Little Luo chose.”
“Hmph.”
That light snort meant ‘Did you even need to say that?’
Leon wanted to continue showing off his relationship with Rosvitha, to make this old aunty’s visit worthwhile.
However, just as he opened his mouth, he suddenly noticed something slightly off.
He stiffly turned his head to look at the woman beside him, then nervously swallowed.
After a long silence, Leon tremblingly asked,
“What… what did you just call her?”
“Little Luo,” the woman replied naturally, “That’s what everyone in our family calls her.”
