Chapter 44: When Husband and Wife Work as One, They Can Cut Through Gold
by reimuAs Isabella had said, border patrol made for a good excuse for a date during work hours.
Leon and Rosvitha set out early. Anna would handle tribal affairs while Her Majesty was away.
From the Silver Dragon territory to the Flame Dragon tribe, it would take about four hours at Rosvitha’s speed.
Upon reaching the Flame Dragon tribe’s border, Rosvitha activated invisibility magic.
“There’s not a single guard at the territory border,” Leon observed from Rosvitha’s back, looking down. “Have they become too busy to care about this place?”
“Yes. After a Dragon King falls, their tribe often takes years to recover,” Rosvitha explained. “Moreover, the Flame Dragon tribe made too many enemies before. Now that Constantine is dead, everyone naturally wants to take advantage.”
“Wow, the Flame Dragons are in quite a pitiful state.”
“Are you actually feeling sorry for them? Who was it that instantly killed their leader?”
Leon grinned, “That would be yours truly!”
“Hmph, you idiot.”
The Queen accelerated with a sonic boom, continuing deeper into Flame Dragon territory.
In the afternoon, the pair landed in a forest.
Rosvitha took out a map – a simple one drawn by Shelly, whom she had sent earlier to scout the situation.
“The Flame Dragon tribe’s headquarters is just ahead, though I doubt there will be many people there,” Rosvitha said. “Let’s rest in this forest first – it’ll be easier to move at night.”
“Hmm… but how do we find that confidant?” Leon asked. “When you probed Morin’s memories, didn’t you only see a blurry figure?”
“The face was blurry, but the body shape was clear,” Rosvitha explained. “Besides, since he was Constantine’s confidant, he won’t be able to stay low-profile after Constantine’s death – whether due to internal faction fights or external revenge attempts. So finding him shouldn’t be difficult.”
Leon nodded thoughtfully, “I see.”
While he excelled at dragon-slaying, fighting, and fishing out spies, when it came to matters of power and political struggles, Rosvitha had more expertise.
The couple chatted while finding an ancient tree with dense foliage at a suitable height.
Rosvitha brought Leon to the treetop – the leaves provided cover while allowing them to observe the surroundings. Any slight movement would be noticed from this perfect vantage point.
“By the way, if we do find that guy, do you have any way to make him talk?” Rosvitha asked, sitting down against the tree trunk.
Leon sat cross-legged across from her, “Of course. While I might not fully understand your dragon tribe’s political struggles, I’m quite skilled at manipulating people.”
Rosvitha crossed her arms and smiled, “Really? Let me warn you first – memory-probing magic only works when there’s a huge power difference, otherwise the person being interrogated will resist.”
“No worries, I plan to focus on psychological warfare this time.”
Rosvitha raised an eyebrow, interested, “Psychological warfare? Tell me more.”
Leon smiled mysteriously, “I’ll tell you tonight.”
“Tch, playing coy now.” Rosvitha rolled her eyes but didn’t press further, leisurely letting out a yawn.
“Why don’t you take a nap? You must be tired after flying so long. I’ll wake you when night falls,” Leon said.
“You want me to sleep against this cold, rough tree trunk?”
It’s not that she couldn’t sleep there – Rosvitha wasn’t that delicate. But when there was a better option available, she certainly wouldn’t shortchange herself.
Leon looked at Rosvitha’s mischievous smile. The dragoness had hinted so obviously that he couldn’t play dumb anymore.
General Leon reluctantly stood up, walked to Rosvitha’s side, and sat down.
Without a word, the Queen didn’t show any hesitation and turned to lean against his shoulder.
Mm, much better than the tree trunk.
This story teaches us that even when looking for a fake husband, choose one with a good build—
Comfortable to lean against!
The Queen’s soft body pressed entirely against him, her subtle fragrant hair entering Leon’s nostrils, very pleasant.
However, his arm… being pressed by Rosvitha, was somewhat uncomfortable.
But Leon didn’t know where else to put it.
Rosvitha opened one eye, noticing Leon’s discomfort, and said softly,
“Just put it wherever feels comfortable.”
“Ummmm…”
The couple both knew exactly how to make their current position more comfortable.
And Rosvitha had already expressed her thoughts – she was allowing Leon to do it.
But Leon seemed constrained, hesitant.
Seeing that he still hadn’t moved, Rosvitha knew he was just being shy.
Muttering “idiot,” Rosvitha directly lifted Leon’s arm and made him embrace her from behind, resting his hand on her shoulder.
Then she leaned back again, continuing to enjoy her fake-husband-provided human pillow.
Having a beauty nestled in his arms, her soft delicate back pressed against his arm, where just lowering his head slightly would let his nose brush against her hair… wasn’t this position a bit… too intimate?
— So thought General Leon, who had already had three children with this woman.
Ah whatever, never mind.
After all, she told me to do this, I’m the passive one here, it’s not my fault.
Leon tried his best to let Rosvitha rest comfortably while remaining vigilant of their surroundings.
…
At night, the bright moonlight greatly helped Leon and his companion.
Not far away, several flames flickered around the Flame Dragon tribe’s headquarters.
The couple crouched on the treetop, looking toward that direction in the bright moonlight.
“They don’t look like Flame Dragon tribe members,” Rosvitha said. “Must be outsiders seeking revenge.”
“Then where did the remaining Flame Dragon tribe members go? Are they hiding?” Leon asked.
Rosvitha shook her head, “Hiding would be equivalent to handing over Flame Dragon territory. Even with Constantine dead, his remaining followers wouldn’t do such a thing. They’re probably lurking in the shadows, waiting for an opportunity. After all, without a Dragon King, there’s no one to back them up in conflicts and wars, so they need to be careful everywhere.”
“Oh~ I get it.”
The two continued observing.
After forty minutes, the flames gradually increased, along with footsteps and discussions.
The various dragon tribes seeking revenge weren’t actually intent on completely uprooting the Flame Dragon tribe, otherwise they wouldn’t have sent so few people.
They probably just wanted to harass the Flame Dragon tribe – after all, everyone kicks you when you’re down.
Seeing that normal searching wasn’t yielding many Flame Dragon tribe members, those revenge-seekers began randomly attacking the Flame Dragon’s temples and buildings.
The sounds of magical explosions kept coming.
Before long, shouts of battle and killing could be heard.
“They’ve finally come. Let’s go up and take a look. If we’re lucky, we might find that guy directly,” Rosvitha said.
“Hey wait.” Leon held her back.
“What’s wrong?”
“I’ll go by myself, you stay here and wait for me.”
Rosvitha raised her eyebrows, with a smile playing at her lips, “Are you really that worried about me getting hurt?”
“We can chat after we get back, dragoness. Just stay here obediently, understand?”
Rosvitha pretended to think seriously for a moment, then solemnly replied,
“No.”
Leon: ?
“Have you heard that old saying?” Rosvitha asked with a smile.
“What saying?”
“When husband and wife work as one, they can cut through gold!”
