Chapter 55: We Only Care About Mom~
by reimuThat dog of a man has been following a three-point routine these days:
Bedroom → Library → Going out
Every morning he gets up at seven, after washing up and having breakfast, he takes the daughters to the library and stays there all morning;
In the afternoon, Noia and Muen practice magic, while Little Light cheers for her second sister from the side, hoping she can soon achieve the basic threshold of “simultaneously condensing lightning and fire elemental powers” for dual awakening.
Leon disappears, only returning at dusk.
Such a regular lifestyle pattern makes Rosvitha curious.
Why has he become so absent from home since that border patrol tour?
One day, after lunch, Rosvitha took a twenty-minute rest before starting her afternoon work.
Soon after, Leon passed through her sacred hall.
He was carrying a camera.
Rosvitha sat on her high throne, leaning forward with her elbow on the desk, single-handedly supporting her chin, her silver eyes following Leon’s figure.
As he was about to walk out of the sacred hall’s gates, Rosvitha finally spoke,
“Going out again?”
Leon stopped and turned back to look up, “Mm, what’s wrong?”
“Nothing, you seem to be going out for long periods every day lately.”
She lowered her eyes to look at the camera in his hands, “You even brought a camera this time.”
“Your Silver Dragon clan has beautiful environment, mountains and waters – surely Her Majesty the Queen won’t mind if I take a few photos?”
Rosvitha rolled her eyes at him, knowing this was just a random excuse, “Whatever, we’ll talk more tonight.”
Leon shrugged, “No problem, I can also tell you about my investigation findings from these past few days.”
Hearing this, Rosvitha raised an eyebrow, “Investigation findings? About the secret cooperation between the Empire and the dragon clans?”
“Not exactly. Anyway, there’s no definitive conclusion yet, so I’d rather not say too much. Let’s see if I can gather more reliable clues later.”
Leon said, “Just focus on your own work, leave the field work to me.”
The Queen’s lips curved slightly upward as she leaned back against her throne, crossing her legs and speaking leisurely,
“A year ago you couldn’t care less about my Silver Dragon clan’s affairs, why so enthusiastic now? But let me tell you in advance, no matter how enthusiastic you are, there’s still no salary.”
“Always bringing up money hurts our relationship, Your Majesty.”
“What relationship? What relationship do I have with you?”
Leon raised his hands in surrender, too lazy to argue this point with her, “Ah fine fine fine, if you say there isn’t any then there isn’t. Anyway, keep some time free tonight, let’s have a good talk.”
“Mm, understood.”
Rosvitha paused, then added a question, “By the way, since you’re going out, do you need me to arrange an escort guard?”
Leon thought for a moment and nodded, “Yes, I was actually planning to request personnel deployment from you.”
Rosvitha rolled her eyes, “Tch, getting all fancy with words now. I’ll have Anna arrange one for you.”
“OK.”
After settling the arrangements, Leon turned towards the door.
After walking a few steps, he heard Rosvitha adding, “Come back early.”
Leon waved his arm without turning around, “Got it.”
About a few minutes later, the sound of dragon wings flapping came from the front courtyard of the sacred hall.
Rosvitha was slightly surprised, “Oh, actually flying? Looks like that fool is going somewhere quite far.”
Muttering to herself, Rosvitha shook her head, pulled back her thoughts, and continued working on her paperwork.
The daughters came by in the afternoon.
Muen said she was almost mastering the technique of simultaneously using two elemental magics.
Rosvitha naturally praised her extensively.
Dual awakening was an extremely rare talent, and even the laid-back Muen didn’t want to waste it.
As soon as Noia came home on break, Muen pestered her sister to teach her magic power manipulation techniques. Combined with Leon’s regular guidance on dual awakening, the little moon was making remarkable progress.
Then Rosvitha asked Little Light if she was interested in magic and such.
Little Light said she was interested in everything she hadn’t experienced before, but unfortunately her physical strength couldn’t keep up now, and the magic circuits in her body weren’t fully developed yet, so she could only watch her sisters practice.
Rosvitha comforted her saying it was fine, take advantage of this time to observe more and learn theoretical knowledge, building a good foundation was also very important.
Little Light naturally understood this principle.
Mother and daughters chatted for a while, and the little dragon girls were very sensible, knowing their mother still had work to do and couldn’t be disturbed for too long. When parting, the three little ones went up to press their cheeks against their mother’s face, then went to the backyard.
The cuddles with her daughters were one of the few breaks in Rosvitha’s busy workday.
Though brief, it was enough to heal Rosvitha’s tired body and mind.
The little dragon girls were adorably cute, well-behaved and understanding, knowing to care for their mother—
Much better than a certain dragon-slaying hero who always contradicted her.
“Just knows how to annoy me, just knows how to annoy me.”
The Queen propped up her face with one hand, muttering while doodling on waste paper.
With a few simple strokes, she sketched out the “big-headed doll” image of that dog of a man.
Just like how she saw him through the wine glass that day.
Ugly-cute.
“If you dare eat dragon strength pills again, I’ll starve you for three days, starve you to death.”
Feeling unsatisfied, she drew a thick X over Leon’s portrait.
“Hmph, see if you dare to disrespect your superior again.”
After her ‘revenge’, she carefully folded the paper with Leon’s big-headed portrait and put it in her coat pocket.
Then she returned to work.
……
At dusk, Rosvitha finished processing the last document of the day, closed her pen cap, and let out a relieved sigh. After sitting quietly for a moment, she stood up preparing to end her workday.
At that moment, a guard hurried in with a report.
“Your Majesty, there’s urgent news.”
Rosvitha lowered her gaze, her voice cold and authoritative, “Speak.”
“Of the 27 hidden sentries positioned at the eastern border, only 26 remain. According to nearby sentries, they heard no sounds of combat – the discovery was made during shift change.”
Upon hearing the guard’s report, Rosvitha furrowed her brow.
The eastern border was the first place she had inspected during her recent patrol with Leon.
Everything had been fine then.
Afterward, following Leon’s suggestions, she had improved the camouflage methods for the sentries and increased patrol posts.
But today a guard reports there are only 26 sentries?
“So a sentry post vanished without any explanation?”
“Yes, Your Majesty.”
Rosvitha’s thoughts stirred, “Let’s go take a look.”
This was no small matter.
A sentry post vanishing into thin air had multiple possibilities.
Perhaps enemy infiltration, or perhaps another traitor had emerged.
Whatever the reason, Rosvitha needed to investigate personally.
She lifted her skirts to descend the stairs, but before reaching the door, she saw Leon returning, covered in dust from travel.
Leon looked at her, then at the guard beside her, and asked, “Are you heading to the eastern border?”
Rosvitha started, “How did you know?”
“No need to go. I just returned from there.”
Leon waved the camera in his hand, “And I brought back some important clues that might interest you.”
