Chapter 107: Dragon God Tiamat
by reimu“Primal Magic… I know of it, but not much.”
Leon thought back for a moment, then continued,
“At the Dragon Slaying Academy, those old professors occasionally mentioned Primal Magic to us.”
“The professors said that Primal Magic was created by the progenitors of certain races at the beginning of chaos in this continent, using the purest form of energy.”
“It has no elemental attributes like lightning, fire, or wind, nor form changes like Chidori or Thunder Wolf Breaking Army.”
“Primal Magic is released through pure energy alone, and its effects are very different from the widespread and diverse elemental magic that exists today.”
“But exactly what it’s like… I’m not too clear. The academy didn’t offer courses on Primal Magic back then, and we didn’t learn much about it.”
Listening to Leon’s description, Rosvitha nodded approvingly,
“Primal Magic has existed since the creation of this ‘Samuel’ continent, over a million years ago. Not just humans, but even among dragons, records of Primal Magic are extremely rare.”
“But there’s one highly reliable point.”
Leon raised an eyebrow, “Oh? What’s that?”
“Dragon God Tiamat, according to historical records, was one of the progenitors who created Primal Magic.”
“Dragon God… Tiamat…”
Another name Leon had never heard before.
But this time, its prefix wasn’t “Dragon King,” but the seemingly higher-ranked “Dragon God.”
If Tiamat was the progenitor of Primal Magic, then its existence predated all of human history, so it was natural that Leon hadn’t heard of it.
“Dragon history books describe that all dragon races are branches of Dragon God Tiamat.”
“A million years ago, Dragon God Tiamat created powerful Primal Magic and used it to resist the world’s chaos.”
“Finally, Tiamat joined with several mysterious racial progenitors to accomplish the feat of ‘world-creation,’ but exhausted its power and nearly died in the process.”
“Before death, Tiamat split its remaining power into several seeds, which would slowly grow over the long years to come, eventually evolving into today’s various dragon races.”
“During this evolution, Primal Magic disappeared into the river of history, replaced by the various elemental magic of today.”
Hearing Rosvitha’s explanation, Leon’s thoughts stirred, and connecting it to her earlier mention of wanting to improve herself, he asked,
“You’re not thinking of practicing Primal Magic, are you?”
Rosvitha slowly turned her head on the pillow to look at Leon, smiling, “Yes. With the dragon mark able to store more magical power, using Primal Magic should be possible.”
Primal Magic is activated by the purest energy – although Rosvitha’s element was fire, as long as she didn’t release the accumulated energy, it would remain stored in its purest ‘state’ within her body.
But even so, activating Primal Magic required enormous energy supplies.
So to solve the energy problem, Rosvitha adopted the same method as Leon – using dragon marks to store magical power.
“But as you just said, records of Primal Magic are very rare. To practice it… wouldn’t that be quite troublesome?”
“Of course it’ll be troublesome. But fire magic and learned magic alone are far from enough.”
Rosvitha said, “If I want to significantly increase my strength in a short time without taking extreme measures, Primal Magic is the only way, Leon.”
“…Mm, I understand.”
“Oh? So you’re agreeing to let me practice Primal Magic?”
Leon pursed his lips, raised his arms to pillow his head, and looked at the ceiling, saying leisurely, “What else can I do? As my master used to say, when your wife comes to tell you she’s going to do something, she’s not consulting you, she’s notifying you.”
Rosvitha became interested, turning to her side and propping her face with one hand, poking Leon’s arm, asking,
“Are there any classic examples?”
Leon thought for a moment, then said, “There was this time when my master’s wife got restless at home and bought a bunch of needles and thread, saying she wanted to do some embroidery to earn extra money and supplement the household income.”
“At first, my master said there was no need, that the ranch’s income could support the family, and worst case, they could sell the donkey for quite a bit of money.”
“But my master’s wife acted cute with him, insisting on embroidery – come to think of it, when you act cute, you’re exactly like my master’s wife.”
The Queen kicked the General’s thigh, “Just tell the story, don’t bring me into this.”
Leon grinned and continued,
“Then, my master couldn’t win against my master’s wife, so he had no choice but to let her learn embroidery.”
“However, she didn’t seem to be very good at needlework, always hurting her hands.”
“Finally, after a month and countless band-aids, my master’s wife completed a piece called ‘Donkey Eating Grass.'”
“But after that, she never touched those needles and threads again. Master’s wife said that compared to killing time, her fingers were more important.”
“Ah.” Leon sighed, “So you see, when your wife wants to do something, don’t stop her, she’ll learn her lesson eventually.”
Rosvitha felt increasingly uneasy as she listened, and after realizing what he meant, she lowered her hand from Leon’s chest,
“You’re taking a jab at me, aren’t you?”
“Heaven above, I was just telling you an amusing little story about my family, how is that taking a jab at you?” Leon feigned innocence.
“You are, you definitely are!”
As she spoke, Rosvitha raised her foot and kicked the General’s hip twice more.
This time, Leon caught her ankle in time, “See? You’re exactly like my master’s wife when you’re acting cute.”
“I’m not acting cute! I’m trying to kick you!”
“With your foot?”
“Obviously! What else would I kick you with?”
“Hmm~ Why are you rewarding me?”
Hearing this, the Queen quickly withdrew her jade foot, hiding it under the covers.
“You… greasy, narcissistic, thick-skinned married dog of a man! Go sleep on the couch!”
Since she called him thick-skinned, Leon decided to show her just how thick-skinned he could be.
Sleep on the couch?
Can’t understand that.
I’m just going to stay right here in bed, hehe.
After horsing around for a while, the couple ran out of energy and finally stopped to rest.
Under the blanket, Leon tentatively reached his hand toward Rosvitha’s side. Seeing that she didn’t reject him, he slowly grasped her delicate right hand.
After a moment of silence between the married couple, Leon spoke,
“Have you made your decision, Rosvitha?”
“Yes, while primordial magic might not be the only method, it’s the most effective one we have in the short term.”
Leon blinked and asked further, “Rosvitha, besides protecting our people and daughters, you seem to have another reason. What is it? Can you tell me?”
Hearing Leon’s question, Rosvitha gently bit her lip and turned to look at him. “Do you really want to know?”
Leon turned to meet her gaze. “Yes.”
rustle rustle
The beauty sat up, her delicate skin brushing against the bedding.
She leaned close to Leon, held his chin, her fingertips trailing over the scar on his face as she gazed into his deep black pupils.
“A long time ago, you were depressed because of August’s words, worried about losing me and our daughters. That night I told you many things, and you resolved your inner conflict.”
“But words alone are far from enough, Leon.”
“So I want to prove to you through my actions that, like you, I care about this family, care about our daughters, and also care about…”
Her warm breath brushed his face, and he felt a gentle, wonderful sensation on his lips.
She kissed the corner of his mouth.
“The person I love.”
