Chapter 58: True Couple’s Double
by reimuLeon slightly narrowed his eyes, looking toward the golden figure in the distance.
“Do you know that guy?”
Rosvitha nodded, her expression serious, “He’s the Star Dragon King Sta from August’s list, a legendary figure from the previous generation of dragons, even senior to Constantine.”
“Didn’t expect him to dare come challenge us alone,” Leon said quietly.
“So we don’t need to send our people to die needlessly,” said Rosvitha. “In the end, it’s always a battle between kings.”
Her tone was too heavy and oppressive, causing Leon to look at her sideways, “I’ve never seen you this tense before, Rosvitha.”
Rosvitha’s steps faltered, then she let out a scoffing laugh,
“It’s not really tension… it’s more like… excitement.”
“Excitement?”
“As a new queen who’s only been on the throne for fifty years, to be able to challenge the Star Dragon King today – what incredible luck.”
“Luck… I don’t know if you’re being sarcastic or if you really think that.”
The Silver Dragon clan was more peace-oriented compared to most dragon clans, never actively invading other tribes’ territories.
But this was just the influence of the Silver Dragons’ living environment.
Once you removed these external factors, Silver Dragons were still dragons, and their bone-deep desire for battle and violence couldn’t be hidden.
Just like Rosvitha now.
Stripped of her gentle mother and cold queen exterior, the warlike genes in her blood were gradually awakening.
Facing an opponent as strong as Sta, she showed not a hint of fear, even explicitly stating her excitement.
Leon suddenly remembered more than a year ago when he had just awakened – that period was when Rosvitha’s revenge against him was most frequent.
Every time her torment of Leon reached its peak, her emotions would verge on losing control.
There were several times when Leon thought she was so excited she might kill him…
So… the reason why traits like gentleness, tsundere, and stubbornness seemed especially cute on Rosvitha was because they were all “gap moe.”
This Silver Dragon Queen had somewhat of a “crazy beauty” attribute.
Leon tapped the black and gold battle helmet, the clear metallic sound bringing him back to his senses, no longer thinking about these messy thoughts.
He could slowly ponder his wife’s hidden personality later.
Right now, he needed to deal with that golden shining figure first.
Both sides almost simultaneously stopped walking, about two hundred meters apart, with the Silver Dragon territory boundary line between them.
There was no rule saying they had to wait until the enemy crossed the boundary line to counterattack – dragons had no such custom.
Though there wasn’t a single soldier behind him, Leon could genuinely feel the pressure emanating from the Star Dragon King.
Rosvitha was right – this guy was indeed stronger than Constantine.
And much stronger at that.
“How much of your magic power has recovered?” Rosvitha asked quietly while keeping her eyes on the enemy ahead.
Almost half a year had passed since defeating Constantine, and Leon’s magic power had only recovered about half.
“Fifty percent,” he answered honestly, without concealment.
“Oh, then it seems joining forces was the correct choice.”
Leon opened his mouth, wanting to say something like ‘Even without you, wife, I could still annihilate the enemy’ to boost morale.
But he knew Rosvitha didn’t like him playing hero alone.
So the words that came out were, “I’ve never fought in coordination with a dragon before.”
“Don’t worry, we’re very in sync, Leon, always have been… very in sync.”
General Leon almost threw out his back at those words, coughing to hide his embarrassment, “We’re at war, be serious.”
The Queen laughed lightly, saying nothing more.
It seemed her state had relaxed, and Leon secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
Several kilometers away at the general’s platform, Nacho’s mood grew tense as he watched both sides with swords drawn, battle about to break out.
“Do you think those two are forming some kind of battle strategy?” Nacho asked.
“Even if they are, we can’t hear it,” Ravi stated matter-of-factly.
“What if they’ve already figured out how to deal with Sta? Should you get closer? It would be easier to support Sta that way.”
Ravi ignored his suggestion, only saying, “Just wait quietly. You said it yourself, I’m the unexpected trump card. What trump card gets thrown out before the battle even starts?”
Nacho bit his lower lip, watching the distant battlefield nervously.
The Silver Dragon side was also all on alert.
Though they had great faith in Her Majesty and the Prince Consort, they still needed to prepare for the worst.
After all, war wasn’t child’s play – there was no such thing as a guaranteed victory.
At the territory boundary line, Leon brought his hands together, slowly pulling them apart as a long sword gradually formed between his palms.
The sword’s body was completely wrapped in blue lightning, fierce electrical arcs jumping and flashing along it.
B-level Lightning Magic – Lightning Sword Formation.
Leon didn’t intend to use his killing moves right from the start.
First, because the opponent’s strength indeed far surpassed Constantine’s, with unknown upper limits. While he had confidence in his own strength, confidence and arrogance were two different things.
Second, his magic power reserves weren’t as full as during the Constantine battle, so he needed to use his strength where it counted most.
As he pondered this, the Star Dragon King drew closer.
The two sides were now close enough to hear each other speak.
“Leon Casmode… you’re the one who killed Constantine, correct?”
The voice from under the golden helmet was elderly but dignified.
Usually when facing a dragon king of Sta’s level, most species couldn’t even stand steadily before him, let alone engage in dialogue.
This was what was known as “dragon pressure.”
But General Leon was born not knowing what dragon pressure was. Every time he heard those dragon kings deliberately lowering their voices to sound profound, he wanted to laugh.
He shouldered his lightning sword, his tone provocative, “Yes, it was me. What of it? Are you here to avenge him?”
In private, Leon wasn’t actually this arrogant personality.
But after so many years of military campaigns, he deeply understood the principle of never losing momentum before battle.
So when facing Sta’s inquiry, he had no need to answer properly – being a bit wild wasn’t a problem.
“Hmph… no human has ever dared to speak to me with such an attitude. You’re the first.”
Sta clearly felt his dignity had been challenged, “Just because you killed Constantine, you think you’re invincible?”
“I wouldn’t say invincible,” Leon slowly raised the lightning sword from his shoulder, the blue light drawing a half-arc in the air before pointing the sword tip at Sta, “But taking care of you won’t be a problem.”
This time not only was Sta somewhat shocked by this human’s level of arrogance, even Rosvitha, with her awakened battle genes, was surprised by her dog husband’s spirit.
He might be able to ignore the other’s dragon pressure, but as a fellow dragon king, Rosvitha could very clearly feel that oppressive force.
To be able to mock the opponent so calmly under such pressure – this queen respects you as a real man.
Sta was somewhat angered.
He didn’t want to waste more words with the human before him.
After all, the instructions from those old folks in the Empire were very simple:
We want Leon Casmode’s life.
Since that was the case, things became much simpler.
Sta closed his eyes, adjusted his mindset, then slowly opened them again.
Wind and sand swept across the battlefield, the sun gradually covered by a thick layer of clouds, shadows slowly approaching from Sta’s direction, covering the ground beneath their feet.
Leon infused his lightning sword with magical power once again. The blade became luminous, with electric arcs dancing like sprightly elves around it.
“Not waiting for your opponent to attack first?” Rosevitha asked, though she was already preparing for battle herself. Her right hand turned upward, and a dragon flame immediately sprang to life in her palm.
“I’ve always preferred taking the initiative,” Leon replied.
He shifted his stance, bending low with his sword. “Here I come.”
“Ready.”
The husband and wife transformed into two silver blurs, charging simultaneously toward Sta.
In an instant, they had flanked him on both sides.
Leon swung his sword while the Queen unleashed her dragon flames.
And so began the war between kings.
