Chapter 4: The Chief Must Have a Purpose for Doing This
by reimuHuman border city, Demon Hunter Association branch office, computer room.
A staff member who was worrying about dinner was boredly tapping on his phone, just about to order some Crazy Thursday, when suddenly a notification message popped up in the lower right corner of his screen.
A red exclamation mark, symbolizing the highest level.
He blinked, not yet reacting. When he realized what it was, his eyes slowly widened and he cried out: “How is this possible!?”
“What’s wrong?”
The others who were working were startled and frowned as they looked over.
The person didn’t respond, immediately straightening his body and opening the message on his computer.
Then, an expression of disbelief and wild joy surged onto his face.
“This is… a cipher from Chief Luo?”
“The Chief really didn’t die! He’s still alive! He’s still alive!”
He excitedly clenched his fists. Without time to tell others this good news, he immediately forwarded this cipher to headquarters.
Dumu City, Demon Hunter Association headquarters, Intelligence Department.
Several managers’ computers instantly sounded alarms, startling them into hurriedly checking.
Not looking was one thing, but looking gave them quite a shock.
“Chief, Chief Luo!”
Several people were dumbstruck, tightly closing their eyes, then suddenly opening them wide, afraid this was a hallucination from working too long.
However, there was no mistake. This format, this signature symbol—it was indeed a cipher from Luo Charles!
“I knew he’d be fine! He’s the Demon Hunter Association’s legend, how could he die easily?”
“Hahaha, you’re one to talk. Who knows who was wailing in mourning these past few days? Slapped in the face now, aren’t you?”
“You were too!”
Several people excitedly pounded the table edges, drawing puzzled sidelong glances from their subordinates.
They didn’t know what good news the directors had received, but they hadn’t seen them this happy in several days.
The director coughed lightly, calming his emotions, but the corners of his mouth still couldn’t suppress a smile: “Everyone pay attention! Immediately decode this cipher and track down the Chief’s signal source location!”
“Huh?”
Upon hearing the word “Chief,” everyone was stunned, then their spirits lifted. The keyboard clattered loudly, like a battlefield filled with gunfire.
After just a few minutes, someone reported.
“Report, signal lost, can’t find the source. Suspected to be a non-registered device.”
“Lost?”
Several people immediately crowded around, looking at the data nodes with furrowed brows. “Could the Chief not be in human territory?”
“Report, cipher decoded!”
Just then, another intelligence officer loudly reported.
“Read it!”
“Yes! The cipher content is: Need one hundred ice cream hawthorns, bring to Yunliu Tree Wenfang Society.”
Everyone: “???”
Ice cream hawthorns??
“What kind of nonsense did you translate!”
Everyone cursed as they impatiently crowded over to look.
“Hiss—”
Upon seeing the completely identical translation, bewilderment, shock, confusion, disbelief, silence, thoughtfulness… In just one short line, everyone’s faces showed various complex expressions.
Clearly each character made sense individually, but put together they were completely incomprehensible.
As expected of the Chief being the Chief—even the cipher was different from others. What was this trying to convey? Could it be the phone was in a pocket and accidentally sent something?
Everyone looked at each other.
“Um… let me seriously analyze this… is this literal meaning?”
“Bullshit! Would the Chief make this kind of joke? This must be extremely important intelligence!”
“But the Chief wouldn’t send such an obscure and difficult to understand cipher before, right?”
“The Chief must have a purpose for doing this!”
“…”
“In any case, let’s report this cipher up the chain first!”

After Sophie finished reviewing all the documents, she stretched comfortably.
The entire breakfast period, she had been handling the cases and hidden dangers that appeared in human cities after Charles’s disappearance.
After all, without Charles’s deterrent presence, some non-humans lurking in human cities were starting to stir, and were also being used by certain people to test if it was real or fake.
Add to that the Demon Hunter Association’s long-term reliance on Charles—now losing their backbone, they were a bit slow to react for a while. A lot of work might not be handled in time, easily creating unnecessary chaos.
To avoid adding to Charles’s worries, naturally she as the master and beloved wife would secretly help out a little.
Of course, all this wasn’t purely for Charles, but more for her own cuddling life and later plans!
However, after completing today’s work, she didn’t rush to leave.
Instead, she somewhat impatiently took out a vacuum bag from the drawer.
Inside was the clothing Charles had just changed out of today!
She pulled out the clothes, looking around left and right somewhat guiltily like a thief. After confirming there was no possibility of being spied on, she buried her face in them at once, breathing greedily.
“Sniff~~ ahh~”
Deeply inhaling, exhaling, her mind filled with Charles’s scent—as if all unpleasantness had disappeared.
“Charles~ you are mine…
Other people have no right to possess you.
Sniff~~~ ahh~~
Charles’s scent, I love it so much~~
Charles…
When will you send me a message? For this day, I’ve been waiting for you for ten years, two months, sixteen days, eight hours, twenty-four minutes and thirty-one seconds…
Sniff~~~ ahh~~
Wait one more minute, and I’ll come over immediately, hehe…”
